*Bird ID: Identification by Song*
Wednesday 3rd April
10-3pm
Clifton Country Park, Salford

Can you tell a Mistle Thrush from a Song Thrush, or a Blackbird from a
Chaffinch with your eyes closed?

Knowing bird song is a key identification tool and of great use when
recording birds, especially once the leaves are fully open on the trees.
GMEU will focus on the 10 most common resident species which will be in
full voice at this time of year. This workshop will not only equip you to
identify and record your bird sightings, but also greatly add to your
enjoyment of bird song.

By the end of the day you will be able to:
· demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of wildlife
recording- who, what, where, when
· submit records to the GM Local Record Centre using RODIS
· train others in Bird ID and recording and communicate why
wildlife recording is important

*Land Army- needs you!*
14th and 21st March
9.30 -5.30pm
Glebelands City Growers, Sale

Jobs include; resurfacing the areas around the polytunnels, renovating
(digging, weeding, pruning, cutting, clearing etc.) an area to be used for
experimenting with new crops. Then if there is the time/energy left over
there is also maintenance of the rhubarb bed and other general digging over
of beds.

Just as an advance warning the growers say that all these jobs would
ideally be done in dry conditions so this trip is slightly weather
dependent...but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!

Lunch and refreshments (and tools and gloves provided), you just need to
come dressed for the job (wellies or sturdy boots, layers that you don't
mind getting muddy and a bottle of water), and ready for a good satisfying
days work! Meet in Hulme at 9.30am
